Turtle Tuesday -Turtles Can't Hurdle

Turtle Tuesday -Turtles Can't Hurdle

Shared information from our partners at the Sea Turtle Conservancy.

The Problem:
Once on the beach sea turtles often encounter obstacles like beach chairs, trash, or large holes that can cause problems. Turtles often return to the ocean without laying their eggs if they run into items left on the beach. They can become entangled up in beach chairs or be hurt falling into large holes left behind by beach-goers.

I can make a difference:
Make sure you remove everything you bring to the beach with you, including trash. You can even bring a bag with you to pick up extra trash you might find.

If you want to dig holes, make them below the high tide line so you don't accidentally dig into a turtle nest. Also, fill the holes in when you are done.

The obstacle:
You have made it to the beach but it is littered with things people left behind. Make your way through the obstacles without getting caught up.

To help spread the word of awareness and education, Tortugas Gear has developed a "Keep it clean, flat and dark" product line found in our Save Sea Turtles collection. Your purchase will also help support the Sea Turtle Conservancy.
